Let the sides of the triangle be a, b, c.

Lengths of the sides of the triangle are a = y, b = y + 1 and c = 7cms.

Perimeter of the triangle is P = a + b + c = 56.

y + y + 1 + 7 = 56

2y + 8 = 56

2y = 56 - 8

2y = 48

y = 48/2 = 24.

The value of y is 24 cms.
