X litres of fuel oil is divided in the ratio 9 : 5 : 2.

The smallest portion of the above ratio is 2.

The smallest portion (2 parts) is 80 litres, means that, 2 parts = 80 litres.

1 part = 80/2 = 40 litres.

X = (9 + 5 + 2) parts

= 16 parts

= 16 * 1 part

= 16 * 40

= 640.

Therefore, X = 640 litres of oil.
