Given equation : y - 5 = -2(x+1)²

Apply Square of a Binomial: (u + v)2 = u2 + 2uv + v2.

y - 5 = -2(x²+1²+2(x)(1))

y - 5 = -2(x²+1+2x)

y - 5 = -2x² - 2 - 4x

Add 5 to each side.
y  = -2x² - 2 - 4x + 5

y  = -2x² - 4x + 3

The standard form of vertex form of quadratic function is y  = -2x² - 4x + 3
