I'm having a bit of trouble with displacement and velocity.

1. How would i hive the displacement of this graph?

2. What is the velocity of the robot as it goes from gate 3 to gate 4?

3. What is the average speed of the robot over the entire experiment?

The displacement is the change in an object's position.

Displacement is the difference between an object's initial position and its final position.

Displacement has a magnitude and direction and is therefore a vector.

The final position of the robot is  2 m .

The initial position of the robot is 0 m .                    [since it starts from rest ]


Displacement D = final position - initial position 

                      D = 2 m - 0 m

                     D = 2 m 

So the displacement of the robot is 2 m .

Velocity is the rate of change of the position of an object .

Change in its position from gate 3  to gate 4 is 0.8 m - 0.6 m = 0.2 m .

The duration of time to cross gate 3  to gate is 1.2 sec - 1.05 sec = 0.15 sec .

So the velocity of robot as it goes from gate 3 to gate 4 is 0.2 m / 0.15 s

                                                                                           = 20 m / 15 s 

                                                                                           = 1.334 m/s .

The velocity of robot as it goes from gate 3 to gate 4 is  1.334 m/s .

The average speed is can evaluated using the below mentioned formula  .

Average speed = total distance traveled / time interval .

Total distance travelled is = d1 + d2 + d3 + d4 + d5 + d6 + d7 + d8 + d9 + d10    [since the experiment was done with 10 instantaneous values ] 

                                        = 0.2 +0.2 +0.3 +0.1 +0.2 +0.2 +0.2 +0.2 +0.2 +0.2

                                        = 2 m 

Total distance travelled is 2 m .

Total time is = t1 + t2 +t3 +t4 +t5 +t6 +t7 +t8 +t9 +t10

                   = 0.6 + 0.3 +0.15 + 0.15 +0.15 +0.1 +0.25 +0.4 +0.6 +0.4

                   = 3 sec 

Duration of time = 3 sec .

So average speed = 2 / 3 

                                  = 0.667 m/s 

The average speed of the robot over the entire experiment is 0.667 m/s .
