Let x be the number of adult tickets Ben sold.

Let y be the number of child tickets Ben sold.

We know he sold 50 tickets.

Hence, x + y = 50 Ben got $5 per adult ticket and $3 per student ticket.

That's 5*x + 3*y.

He got a total of $180.

Hence, 5x + 3y = 180 Now you have a system of two equations and two unknowns,

you should be able to solve that. From the first equation, y = 50 - x.

Plug that into the second equation to get: 5x + 3*(50 - x) = 180

5x - 3x + 150 = 180

2x = 30

x = 15

And since x + y = 50,

it follows that y = 35. Ben sold 15 adult tickets and 35 child tickets.
