An airplane is flying in still air with an airspeed of 500 miles per hour. If it is climbing at an angle of 26°, find the rate at which it is gaining altitude. (Round answer to four decimal places.)

Airplane speed, dx/dt =500mph

From the geometry.

tan26=h/x

h=xtan26

dh/dt =(dx/dt)tan26

        =500tan26

        =243.87 mph
