2x+1<3  or  -(2x+1)<3

2x+1<3

Subtract 1 from eachside

2x+1-1<3-1

2x<2

x<1

----------------------------------

-(2x+1)<3

2x+1>-3

Subtract 1 from eachside

 

2x+1-1>-3-1

2x>-4

x>-2

x>-2 or x<1

-2<x<1
