Given

The ratio of two numbers is 4 : 5

The larger number is 300 and find the smaller number.

Let us assume that the smaller number is 4x.

Let us assume that the larger number is 5x.

So 5x = 300 ⇒ x = 300/5 = 60.

Therefore x = 60.

The smaller number = 4x = 4 * 60 = 240.

Solution : The smaller number is 240.
