Substitution method

Given equations y-5 = x ---> (1)

4x-y = 9 ---> (2)

From (1) substitute the x value in (2).

4(y-5)-y = 9

4y-20-y = 9

3y-20 = 9

Add 20 to each side.

3y = 29

y = 29/3

Substitute the y value in (1).

29/3-5 = x

x = 14/3

Solution x = 14/3 and y = 29/3.
