Rectangular swimming length is l = 2x - 1 and width is w = x + 2

Let A(x) is the polynomial that represents the area of rectangle.

Rectangular area is given by A(x) = lw

A(x) = (2x-1)(x+2)

Recall FOIL method: the product of two binomials is the sum of the products of the First terms, the Outer terms, the Inner terms and the Last terms.

A(x) = (2x)(x)+(2x)(2)+(-1)(x)+(-1)(2)

A(x) = 2x2 + 4x - x - 2

A(x) = 2x2 + 3x - 2

Polynomial is A(x) = 2x2 + 3x - 2.

Substitute x = 5 in the equation to find the A(5)

A(5) = 2(5)2 + 3(5) - 2

A(5) = 2(25) + 15 - 3

A(5) = 50+13

A(5) = 63
