-3x^2-5x+1 = 8x^2-2x-9

Bring all the terms to left side.

-3x^2-5x+1-8x^2+2x+9 = 0

-11x^2-3x+10 = 0

Multiple to each side by negitive one.

11x^2+3x-10 = 0

Compare to quadratic form ax^2+bx+c = 0.

a = 11, b = 3, c = -10.

x = [-b±√(b^2-4ac)]/2a

x = [-3±√(9+440)]/22

x = [-3±21.18]/22

x = (-3+21.18)/22 and x = (-3-21.18)/22.

x = 18.18/22 and x = -24.18/22

x = 0.82 and x = -1.09.

Solution x = 0.82 and x = -1.09.
