Elimination method

y  = 1 + 3x

Subtract 3x  from each side.

-3x + = 1 ---> (1)

y  = 16 - 2x

Add 2 to each side.

y + 2x  = 16 ---> (2)

To elimnate the y  value subtract (1) from (2).

y + 2= 16

y - 3x  = 1

(-) (+)   (-)

________________

5x  = 15

Divide each side by 5.

x  = 3

Substitute the value in equation (2).

y + 6 = 16

Subtract 6 from each side.

y  = 10

Solution x  = 3 and y  = 10.
