Substitution Method :

The system of equations are x + y = 8 and 4x + 3y = 27.

Step 1 : Solve the equation 1 : x + y = 8 for x or y since the coefficient is 1.

Subtract y from each side.

x + y - y = 8 - y

x = 8 - y.

Step 2 : Substitute 8 - y for x in the equation 2 : 4x + 3y = 27 to find the value of y.

4(8 - y) + 3y = 27

Apply distributive property : a(b - c) = ab - ac.

32 - 4y + 3y = 27

32 - y = 27

Subtract 32 from each side.

32 - y - 32 = 27 - 32

- y = - 5

Multiply each side by negative 1.

y = 5.

Step 3 : Substitute 5 for y in either equation to find x.

Equation 1 : x + y = 8.

x + 5 = 8

x = 3.

The solution is (3, 5).
