An airplane is flying over a forest at an altitude of 1600 ft. when the pilot sights a fire. He measures the angle of depression and finds it to be 0.8 radians. How far is the fire, to the point on land directly?

Angle of depression is 0.8 radians = 45.83°

Altitude of airplane is 1600 ft

Let distance is x ft 

tan Ø = length of opp side / length of adjacent side 

tan 45.83 = 1600 / x

1.0296 = 1600 / x

x = 1600 /1.0296

x = 1533.94

Distance is 1533.94
