(a)

The ratio of heights of container_A  and container_B  is  hA  :hB =  5:4 .

The height of container_A is (hA )15 cm .

So the height of container_B  is ( hB ) = ( hB / hA ) hA

hB : hA  =  4:5

 hB =( 4/5 )15

 hB = 4*3

 hB = 12

The height of container_B  is 12 cm .

(b)

The obtained  height of container_B  is 12 cm                  [ From (a) ]

Container_B is quarter full of water  = (1/4) 12 cm

                                                    = 3 cm .

400 mL of water is added to container_B , water level increases by 2 cm .

So  water level of container_B is = 3 + 2 = 5 cm .

The empty place in container_B  is = 12 -5 = 7cm .

So 7 cm of water to be filled , to fill the container_B .

For 1 cm raise the amount of water to be poured = 400 mL / 2 cm

                                                                      = 200 mL / cm .

For 7 cm raise the amount of water to be poured is = (200 mL / cm)*7cm

                                                                         = 1400 mL .

So the amount of water to be added to fill the tank is 1400 mL .
