7.2 The area of a brass plate is 1 cm 2 at 0 °C and 1,004 cm 2 at 100 C. Calculate the coefficient of linear expansion of brass.

Find the coefficient of area expansion by using the formula:

αa  = ( 1/ A0 )(dA/dT)

       =( 1/1 )((1.004 - 1 )/ (100 - 0))

       = 0.004 / 100

         =0.00004 cm² / cm² °C
