3.The equation is a^2 + 2a - 3 = 0.

a^2+3a-a-3 = 0

a(a+3) -1(a+3) = 0

Take out common factors.

(a-1)(a+3) = 0

a-1 = 0 or a+3 = 0

a  = 1 or a = - 3

a = 1 or -3

The solution is a = 1 or -3.

3) The equation a2 + 2a - 3 = 0

Separate variables and constants aside by adding 3 to each side.

a2 + 2a =  3

 To change the expression into a perfect square trinomial add (half the a coefficient)² to each side of the expression

 Here a coefficient = 2. so, (half the a coefficient)² = (2/2)2= 1

Add 1 to each side.

a2 + 2a +1 =  3 + 1

(a + 1)2 = 4

Take square root both sides.

a + 1 = ±√4

a + 1 = ±2

a = -1 ± 2

a = -1 + 2 or a = -1 - 3

Solution

a = 1 , -3.

(4). The equation is 4√s + 7 = 4√(9s) and solve for s.

4√s + 7 = 4(3)√s

4√s + 7 = 12√s

Subtract 12√s from each side.

4√s + 7 - 12√s = 0

(4 - 12)√s + 7 = 0

8√s + 7 = 0

Subtract 7 from each side.

8√s =  - 7

Divide each side by 8.

√s =  - 7/8

Square each side.

s =  49/64.

The value of s =  49/64.
