Stopping distance figures

1. The following table shows the figures for a vehicle.

a) Sketch the graph of overall stopping distance versus speed, putting speed along the horizontal axis. Comment on the shape of the graph.


b) The figures gave the shortest stopping distance. How would you expect stopping distance to vary if:

(i) the road was wet



(ii) the car had poor brakes or tyres 



(iii) the driver was tired

a) 

speed is taken on x-axis and stopping distace is taken on y-axis

on x-axis scale = 20units, on y-axis scale = 10units

The graph indicates, stopping distance increases with speed.
