Average = sum of observations /number of observations

Arithemeti mean of 4x+5,7x-6, -8x+2

[(4x+5)+(7x-6)+(-8x+2)]/3

= (4x+5+7x-6-8x+2)/3

= (3x+1)/3

= 3x/3+1/3

= x+1/3
