Substitution method

Given equations are 8x-10y = -8 ----------> (1)

-8+2y = -24

Add 8 to each side.

2y-8+8 = 24+8

2y = 32

Divide to each side by 2.

2y/2 = 32/2

y = 16

Substitute the y value in (1).

8x-10*16 = -8

8x-160 = -8

Add 160 to each side.

8x-160+160 = -8+160

8x = 152

Divide to each side by 8.

8x /8 = 152/8

x = 19

Solution x = 19,y = 16.

Substitution method

The system of equations are 8x  - 10y = - 8 and - 8 + 2y = - 24

From the second equation 2y = - 16

y = - 8

Substitute the y value in first equation.

8x - 10( - 8) = - 8

8x + 80 = - 8

8x = - 88

x = - 11

Solution x = - 11 and y = - 8.
