Say J(4,2) = (x1,y1) and m =3.

Point slope form is y-y1 = m(x-x1)

y-2 = 3(x-4)

y-2 = 3x-12

Add 2 to each side.

y-2+2 = 3x-12+2

Required line is y = 3x+10.

The point - slope form of a line equation is y - y ₁ = m(x - x ₁), where m is slope, and (x ₁, y₁) is the point lies on the line.

An equation in point-slope form of the line through point J (4,2) with slope 3 is y - 2 = 3(x - 4).
