Gven equation is y = -1/2x+4

Compare standard form of a line y = mx+b

Here m is slope and b is y intercept.

m = dy/dx measures the change n y, so y is quite sensitive to change in x.

For a line slope is the average rate of change.

Here average rate of change = -1/2
