Let the required numbers x,y

According to given problem x+y = 41 ---> (1)

x-y = 17 ---> (2)

To eliminate y value add the two equations.

x+y = 41

x-y = 17

________

2x = 58

Divide to each side by 2.

2x/2 = 58/2

x = 29

Substitute x value in x+y = 41.

29+y = 41

y = 41-29

y = 12

required numbers are 12,29.
