2x + 2y = 28 ---> (1)

If the length is doubled and the width is tripled,the perimeter becomes 66 inches.

2(2x+3y) = 66

2x + 3y = 33  ---> (2)

To eliminate x value Subtract (1) from (2).

2x + 3y = 33

2x + 2y = 28

(-)_______________

y = 5

Substitute the y value in (1).

2x + 10 = 28

2x = 18

x = 9

Therefore, The original rectangle length is 9 units and width is 5 units.
