Elimination method

Given equations are 6x-y = 3

12x-2y = 6 ---> (1)

4x-2y = -2 ---> (2)

To eliminate the y value subtract the equation (1) from (2).

12x-2y = 6

4x-2y = -2

(-)(+)  (+)

_________

8x = 8

Divide to each side by  8.

x = 1

Substitute the x value in (1).

12-2y = 6

Subtract 12 from each side.

-2y = -6

Divide to each side by negitive 2.

y = 3.

Solution x = 1,y = 3.
