Let the points are (x₁, y₁) = (4, 4) and (x₂, y₂) = (1, 2).

Slope m = [(y₂ - y₁)/(x₂ - x₁)].

m = [(2 - 4)/(1 - 4)]

m  = [- 2/- 3] = 2/3.

Slope = rise/run = - 2/- 3 (or) 2/3.

So, in this case the slope is always positive.
