Lets

A(x1,y1)=(-3/4, 1/4)

B(x2,y2)=(1/4, 5/4)

Distance between two points A(x1,y1) and B(x2,y2) is given by

d=√(x2-x1)2+(y2-y1)2

  =√(1/4 - (-3/4))2+(5/4 - 1/4)2

Product of two same sings is positive.

  =√(1/4+ 3/4)2+(5/4 - 1/4)2

  =√(1)2+(1)2

d=√1+1

d=√2.

Therefore the distance is √2.
