The given numbers form a ratio expressed as y/x = 8/24

To find x when y = 9

We set up another ratio is 9/x.

By the definition both ratio are equal 8/24 = 9/x

1/3 = 9/x

Multiple to each side by 3

3/3 = 9*3/x

1= 27/x

Divide to each side by 27.

1/27= 27/27x

1/27 = 1/x

Cross multiplication

x = 27
