Given quadratic equation is x^2+4x-5 = 0

Now factorize it.

x^2+5x-x-5 = 0

x(x+5)-1(x+5) = 0

Take common out x+5.

(x+5)(x-1) = 0

x+5 = 0                              and          x-1 = 0

Subtract 5 from each side.               Add 1 to each side.

x+5-5 = 0-5                                      x-1+1 = 0+1

x = -5                                                x = 1

Solutions are x = -5, x = 1
