Slope intercept form a line y = mx + b.

Given line is x - 2y = 8

-2y  = - x + 8

y  = x/2 - 4

Slope = 1/2.

We know that parallel lines have equal slope.

Parallel line passes through (-1,9).

Equation of a line in point slope form is

image

y - 9 = 1/2(x + 1)

Cross multiplication.

2y - 18 = x + 1

2y  = x + 19

y  = x/2 + 19/2.

Required line equation is y  = x/2 + 19/2.
