The rate of change for y = 9 - 2x is?

The equation is y = 9 - 2x.

Write the equation in slope intercept form.

y = - 2x + 9.

Compare it with slope - intercept form of a line y = mx + b.

Here m is slope and b is y - intercept.

m = dy /dx measures the change in y, so y is quite sensitive to change in x.

For a line slope is the average rate of change.

The average rate of change = -2.
