Which is the equation of a line that is perpendicular to 8x + 6y = –5?

Slope -intercept form line equation is y = mx + b, where m is slope and b is y-intercept.

Write the line equation in slope intercept form.

Original equation is 8x + 6y = -5

Subtract 8x from each side

6y = -8x - 5

Divide each side by 6

y = -4/3x - 5/6

Slope of the line m = -4/3

Perpendicular lines intersect at right angles to one another. The slopes of perpendicular lines are opposite reciprocals of each other.

So, m * m1 = -1

-4/3 * m1 = -1

m1 = 3/4

Perpendicular line equation is y = 3/4x + b

To find the y-intercept atleast one point through which the line passes is required.

Find they-intercpet by substituing the point and write the final line equation.
