The expression is 108 / 72y.

= (3 * 36) / (2 * 36)y

Divide numerator and denominator by 36.

= 3  / 2y

= (3/1) * (1/2y)

= (3*1) / (1*2y)

= (1*3) / (2y*1)                   [Apply Commutative Property: a*b = b*a]

= 3 / 2y                              [Apply Identity Property: a*1 = a]

Therefore 108 / 72y = 3 / 2y.
