The equation is (x + 2)2 = 3(x + 2) and solve for x.

Apply square of sum : (a + b)2 = a2 + 2(a)(b) + b2.

x2 + 2(x)(2) + 22 = 3(x + 2)

x2 + 4x + 4 = 3(x + 2)

Apply distributive property : a(b + c) = ab + ac.

x2 + 4x + 4 = 3(x) + 3(2)

x2 + 4x + 4 = 3x + 6

Subtract (3x + 6) from each side.

x2 + 4x + 4 - (3x + 6) = 3x + 6 - (3x + 6)

x2 + 4x + 4 - 3x - 6 = 0

x2 + x - 2 = 0

x2 + 2x - x - 2 = 0

(x + 2) - 1(x + 2) = 0

(x - 1)(x + 2) = 0

Apply Zero product property : If ab = 0 then either a = 0 or b = 0 (or) both are zeors.

x - 1 = 0 and x + 2 = 0

x = 1 and x = - 2.
