Q)  An oscillating vertical mass spring system is set up to study its motion. The spring constant for the spring is 10N/m. The maximum speed of the oscillating mass is 3.0m/s and the mass has a maximum displacement of 50cm. How much is the mass?

Given,

Spring constant, k = 10 N/m

Velocity , v = 3 m/s

Maximum displacement, xmax= 50 cm = 0.5 m

Calculate the angular velocity

ω = v/ xmax

    = 3 / 0.5

    = 6 rad/s

Calculate the mass by using the following formula

ω² = k/m

m =k/ω²

    = 10/ 6²

    = 0.2777 kg
