From the graph,

  • The boundary lines are dashed lines, so the two inequalities has either less than (<) or greater than (>).
  • The boundary lines are represents ellipse and parabola.
  • Major axis of the ellipse is horizontal and its equation is x2/a2 + y2/b2 = 1.
  • Parabola with horizontal axis and its equation is x = ay2 + by + c.
  • The solution set color is orange and test point is (- 4, 0).

From the above conclusion, the option A (or) B correct answer.

Test point (- 4, 0) is used only for parabola inequality in the two options, because the two options has same ellipse inequality .

Substitute (x, y) = (- 4, 0) in the option A parabola inequality.

(- 4) > (0)2 - 3

- 4 > - 3.

The above statement is false, the option A is not correct.

Substitute (x, y) = (- 4, 0) in the option B parabola inequality.

(- 4) < (0)2 - 3

- 4 < - 3.

The above statement is true, the option B is correct.

The option B is correct.
