Step 1:

In this experiment, we study the reaction called "Iodine clock".

In this reaction, potassium iodate (KIO3) and sodium hydrogen sulfite (NaHSO3) react with each other.

Iodine obtained is colored.

The rate of reaction can be monitored by determining the time required for the appearance of the color of iodine.

The rate law for this reaction is

x is the order of the reaction with respect to the concentration of hydrogen sulfite and y is the order of the reaction with respect to the concentration of iodate ion.

Thus, reaction rate depends on the concentration of potassium iodate.
