Physics Help? C4:8

A child is playing with two blocks, as shown at right. She applies a force of 10 N to the 1.0-kg block which makes both blocks slide to the right. The blocks are initially at rest on a frictionless surface.

8) What horizontal normal force acts on the 1.5-kg block?

(8)

Step 1:

The mass of the first block is 1 kg.

Let the mass of the second block is 1.5 kg.

Draw the free body diagram to the above situation.

The normal force to the frictionless horizontal surface is N = mg.

Where m is the mass of two blocks.

            g  is acceleration due to gravity (9.8 m/s²).

N = (1.5)(9.8)

N = 14.7

Therefore the horizontal normal force on the second block is 14.7 N.

Solution :

The horizontal normal force on the second block is 14.7 N.
