Given equation is 3 log(x - 7) = -3

                              => log(x - 7)^3 = -3       [ If the base value is not given then we can take it as 10 ]

                              => 10^-3 = (x - 7)^3

                              => (10^-1)^3 = (x - 7)^3

                              => 10^-1 = x - 7

                              => (x - 7) / 10^-1 = 1

                              => (x - 7)(10) = 1

                              => 10x - 70 = 1

                              => 10x - 70 -1 = 0

                              => 10x - 71 = 0

                              => 10x = 71

                              => x = 71/10

                              => x = 7.1

Therefore the value of x is 7.1
