Say the points  p1 (x1,y1) = (-3,1)

p2 (x2,y2) = (5,4)

Mid point of given segment p1p2 = [(x1+x2)/2, (y1+y2)/2]

= [(-3+5)/2,(1+4)/2]

= (2/2,5/2)

= (1,5/2)
