Substitution method

Given equations are 5x-3y = 7 ---> (1)

x-2y = 12

Add 2y to each side.

x+2y-2y = 12+2y

x = 12+2y ---> (2)

From (2) substitute the x value in (1).

5(12+2y)-3y= 7

60+10y-3y = 7

60+7y = 7

Subtract 60 from each side.

60-60+7y = 7-60

7y = -53

Divide to each side by  7.

7y/7 = -53/7

y = -53/7

Substitute the y value in (2).

x = 12+2(-53/7)

x = 12-106/7

x = (84-106)/7

x = -22/7

Solution x = -22/7,y = -53/7.
