Substitution method

Given first equation x+2y = 6

Subtract 2y from each side.

x = 6-2y ---> (1)

Second equation 6x = 8+4y ---> (2)

Substitute the x value in (2).

6(6-2y) = 8+4y

36-12y = 8+4y

Separate the variables and constants.

16y = 28

Divide to each side by 16.

y = 28/16

y = 7/4

Substitute the y value in (1).

x = 6-2(7/4)

x = 6-7/2

x = (12-7)/2

x = 5/2

Solution x = 5/2 and y = 7/4.
