The Equation is

√(y - 5) + √y  =  5

√(y - 5)  =  5 - √y

Squaring on both sides

[ √(y - 5) ]^2  =  (5 - √y )^2

y - 5  =  25 - 10√y + y

25 - 10√y + y - (y - 5)  =  0

25 - 10√y + y - y + 5  =  0

30 - 10√y  =  0

10√y  =  30

√y  =  30/10

√y  =  3

Squaring on both sides

( √y )^2  =  3^2

y  =  9

Answer :

The solution is y  =  9.
