Point slope form is y-y1 = m(x-x1)

Say

The point (x1,y1) = (1, 5) and slope (m) = - 2.

Line equation is y - 5 = - 2(x - 1).

Combine the terms using distributive property.

y - 5 = - 2x + 2

Add 5 to each side.

y = - 2x + 2 + 5

y = - 2x + 7.

Required line equation is y = - 2x + 7.
