A milling machine is being driven by a 5 kW motor in a certain machine operation. The milling cutter being used has a diameter of 150 mm and rotates at 125 r/min. The efficiency of the drive is 75%. Calculate the following: 1.The power output of the milling machine 2.The tangential cutting force exerted by the milling cutter

Driven power,HPC =5 kW

Efficiency E =75%=0.75

Output power =Driven power*Efficiency

                      = 5*0.75

                       = 3.75 kW

---------------------

Calculate the torque by using power formula

P =2piNT/60

T= 60P/2piN

   = 60*5000/2pi*125

   =382 N-m

Calculate the tangential cutting force:

ft =T/R

   =T/(d/2)

   =382/((150 mm*10^-3 m/mm)/2)

   =5093 .1 N

   =5.093 kN
