Labourer is engaged for 20 days

Pay for each day is rs 120 .

If the labour is absent then rs 10 will be debited .

He receives rs 1880

Let the number of days present is x .

So the number of days absent is 20 - x .      [since the agreement is for 20 days ]

The payment = (number of days present * pay for each day ) - ( number of days absent * pay for each absent )

The payment = (x * 120)  -  ( (20 - x)*10)

                         = 120x - (200 -10x)

                         = 120x - 200 + 10x

                         = 130x - 200

The payment he received is 1880 .

1880 = 130x - 200

130x  =  1880 + 200

130x  =  2080

x = 2080/130

x = 16

Number of days worked is 16 .

So number of days absent is 20 - 16 = 4 .
