Given line slope say m1 = 1

The perpendicular line slope say m2

So m1*m2 = -1

1*m2 = -1

m2 = -1

Perpendicular line equation is y-y1 = m2 (x-x1)

y+5 = -1(x-2)

y+5 = -x+2

y = -x+2-5

y = -x-3

Required line is y = -x+3

Required line equation which is passes through (2,-5) and perpendicular to y = x - 8 is

y = - x - 3.
