The coordinates are (- 8, - 2) and (4, y ) and the slope (m) = -0.

Slope of a line (m ) = ( y ₂ - y ₁ ) / ( x ₂ - x ₁ ).

Substitute the values of ( x ₁, y ₁) = (- 8, - 2), ( x ₂, y ₂ ) = (4, y) and m = 0 in m = ( y ₂ - y ₁ ) / ( x ₂ - x ₁ ).

0 = (y - (- 2))/(4 - (- 8))

(y + 2)/(4 + 8) = 0

y + 2 = 0

y = - 2.

Therefore, the value of y = - 2.
