The equation is x + 7(4 - x ) = 3 + 2(x  - 1).

Apply distributive property: a(b - c) = ab - ac.

x + 7(4) - 7(x ) = 3 + 2(x )  - 2(1)

x + 28 - 7x  = 3 + 2x  - 2

Combine like terms.

-6x + 28 = 5x  - 2

Add 6x  to each side.

Apply Addition Property: If a = b then a + c = b + c.

-6x + 28 + 6x  = 5x  - 2 + 6x

28 + 0  = 11x  - 2

Add 2 to each side.

28 + 2 = 11x  - 2 + 2

30 = 11x  - 0

Apply Division Property: If a = b then a / c = b / c.

Divide each side by 11.

30 / 11 = 11x / 11

Cancel common terms.

30 / 11 = x

Therefore the solution is x  = 30/11.
