The equation 2(6b + 8) = 4 + 6b

{ Apply the distributive property a(b + c) = ab + ac }

2(6b) + 2(8) = 4 + 6b

12b + 16 = 4 + 6b

Separate variable terms and constants.

12b - 6b = 4 - 16

6b = - 12

Divide each side by 6.

(6b/6) = (- 12/6)

b = - 2

Solution b = - 2.
